Poldhu Cove Beach

Poldhu Cove, also known as ‘Black Pool Cove,’ is a bustling west-facing sandy beach on the Lizard Peninsula and a hub of activity year-round for visitors, locals and wildlife enthusiasts. Swimming and surfing is possible here taking care at low tide.

Please note: Dogs are welcome on this beach except between 1 July and 31 August (10am - 6pm) when a seasonal dog ban is in place (2023).

Now owned by the National Trust, the beach is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a site of special scientific interest (SSSI), and famously home to one of two wireless communication centres on the Lizard. The Marconi Centre at Poldhu is located on the cliff top south of the beach and operated by volunteers at Poldhu Amateur Radio Club.
