Torpoint - map
Torpoint was established in the eighteenth-century and designed by Reginald Pole Carew in the Parish of Antony in 1774. His family continued to have a strong influence in the area, having become the Carew Poles, and still reside at their family seat, Antony House. Due to the presence of Devonport Dockyard, across the River Tamar, the town grew as the regular ferry service was introduced. Torpoint is the gateway to South East Cornwall and the Rame Peninsula with popular beaches at Cawsand and Kingsand.
