ST IVES - BEST FAMILY HOLIDAY DESTINATION AT THE 2010 COAST AWARDS
Hailed as the ultimate year-round holiday destination it was praised for its mix of adult and child friendly attractions and things to do, and singled out for having a unique art scene.
Why not lose yourself in a maze of narrow cobbled streets and alleyways bursting with galleries, craft and funky clothes shops, cafes and artists' studios. Chill out with a drink or splash out on the culinary delights at one of the top restaurants around the harbour, looking out at the fishing boats and clear water. Inspire your creative side with a visit to the Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden and the Tate St Ives, with its regularly changing exhibitions and great roof-top cafe.
Watch the local surfers ripping it up at Porthmeor beach - or get in there and give it a go yourself!
Or for something less strenuous, visit Steeple Woodland Nature Reserve, a 40 acre public open space around Knill’s Monument above St Ives. Visitors can explore the woods, stroll over heath-land and discover areas planted with young trees. There are remnants of local mining history and spectacular views across St Ives Bay. A lovely walk for all the family, strolling over the healthland and exploring the woods. Don’t forget to bring the dog!
