Cornwall on Film

Did you spot the world famous biomes of the Eden Project on the 2002 James Bond epic, Die Another Day? Or how about the picturesque fishing village of Cadgwith in Ladies in Lavender?

Cornwall's distinct landscape has been captured on film in a number of international blockbusters and as more talented directors are both drawn and born here, there's a lot being reeled into Cornish film-making.

Bringing Hollywood to Cornwall with Tim Burton’s remake of the Lewis Carroll classic Alice in Wonderland released in March 2010. Film locations include Antony House in Torpoint and Charlestown Harbour.

Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland
Starring as the Mad Hatter is Hollywood actor Johnny Depp who is unrecognisable with curly red hair sticking out from his quirky hat, bohemian Victorian clothes and a ghostly pallor. All star cast including Anne Hathaway, Matt Lucas, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman.

Watch out for Antony House in the background of the movie trailer; also the house stars at the start of the story, just before Alice plunges down the rabbit hole into Wonderland.

Away from the big screen and Cornwall has starred in, and been central to, a range of popular television programmes, one of the most recent being Doc Martin. Now in its fourth series, Doc Martin sees Port Isaac on the North Coast of Cornwall play the fictional town of Portwenn.

Martin Clunes stars as the main character and fell in love with Cornwall whilst filming:

"I love working on Doc Martin; being in Cornwall, and being able to work with my wife Philippa, who is the producer. At the end of the day's filming we were able to go back to a beautiful house along the coast from Port Isaac, which has stunning sea views."
