The Green Tourism Business Scheme is a national campaign which aims to promote businesses which care for the environment. Organisations that join the scheme are assessed by a qualified grading advisor on criteria including energy and water efficiency, waste management and biodiversity. Those that meet the required standards can earn a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award based on their level of achievement - the higher the award, the more they're doing to care for the environment.
A wide range of businesses in Cornwall have joined the scheme, including over 130 accommodation providers, visitor attractions and corporate offices (and the numbers are rising all the time).
Two Cornish hotels have been highly commended in the annual Considerate Hoteliers Association 'Considerate Hotel of the Year Award'. The Bedruthan Steps Hotel at Mawgan Porth, between Newquay and Padstow; and the Budock Vean Hotel at Helford Passage, near Falmouth were recognised for their environmental and Corporate Social responsibility performance highlighting them as being amongst the greenest in the country.
David Bellamy Conservation Awards
These awards are made each year to caravan and camping parks which can demonstrate policies showing active concern for the environment. David Bellamy looks at virtually every aspect of park management - from the protection of plant and animal habitats to the efficient use of energy and recycling. Three levels of excellence can be achieved : Gold, Silver and Bronze.
