Carbon Footprint Calculator

Calculate your carbon footprint

A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact our activities have on the environment, and in particular climate change. It relates to the amount of greenhouse gases (gases such as carbon dioxide and methane which are believed to cause global warming by absorbing heat reflected from the earth) that are produced in our day-to-day lives through burning fossil fuels for electricity, heating and transportation. VisitCornwall can help to reduce your carbon footprint, which, in turn, can save money and enhance your green credentials with customers.
Understanding your carbon footprint is the first step towards reducing it and saving money, which is why VisitCornwall (in conjunction with Superfast Cornwall, CoaST and Clear about Carbon) has developed a carbon calculator tool to help you measure, manage and minimise the carbon footprint of your home or business. It will also help us measure the carbon impact of VisitCornwall. The tool measures the carbon impacts associated with electricity, heating and travel (cars, flights, etc), and there are separate carbon calculators for businesses and households.
Once you have entered your data on each tab don’t forget to hit the Calculate & Save button!  If you move on to the next tab without hitting Calculate & Save you will have to re-enter the data!

Try to avoid using the BACK button on your browser.  Doing so will lose any data entered but not calculated.
We have listened to your feedback and have created a simplified Carbon Calculator which is easier and quicker to use:

Your browser doesn't support IFRAMES - please use the carbon calculator instead.

Monthly, Quarterly or Annually?
The calculator enables you to enter data monthly – and taking this approach is likely to result in the most accurate footprint.  But if you prefer you can enter data quarterly or annually.  For quarterly input, enter the data in the last month of each quarter (but remember that this should cover all three months).  For annual input, enter the full 12 months’ worth of data in December of the required year).
What information do I need?
You may find it useful to pull together the following data prior to completing the calculator:
-Energy utility bills for the period in question
-Mileage travelled in all cars during the period in question and, if known, quantity of fuel used. It is likely that your initial baseline data will be an estimate for the year, but you may be able to get a more accurate view of your miles travelled from, e.g. MOT certificates or insurance documents. We recommend that you make a note of your cars milometer reading in order to enable an accurate measurement for subsequent entries.
-A list of all cars / vans used by your business and, if know, the quantity of fuel used.
-A record of all flights undertaken
-Details of any public transport used
If you have any queries or encounter any difficulties using the carbon calculators, please email us
Users of the Superfast Cornwall carbon calculator can also register for CarbonDiem; a smartphone application that automatically monitors the distance you travel on each mode of transport. The app automatically calculates the carbon emissions resulting from your travel, and this data can then be uploaded straight into the Superfast Cornwall carbon calculator, making it very easy to track your travel carbon footprint.
