How can I communicate news and information to Visit Cornwall members?

As of 1 October 2012 Visit Cornwall will be emailing our members with a monthly newsletter containing business critical, useful and relevant information and communications on the first Monday of every month only.

There are several reasons for this:
-  our members have requested we reduce the amount of emails we send them
-  to increase the quality of our communications to members
-  we have a tightly packed marketing and communications schedule to Industry and Consumer audiences

Please ensure that any information you communicate to our members via our monthly Industry newsletter reaches us at least a month in advance.  Email membership@visitcornwall.com

What is your revised policy on National Quality Assessment Scheme rated accommodation?

For the past few years Visit Cornwall has required all members and advertisers to be assessed under the National Quality Assessment Scheme [NQAS]. This policy has increasingly been seen as restrictive and outdated, due in part to the development of the web and review sites such as Trip Advisor. It was felt that the time has come to review and reflect on the existing policy to ensure that we are firstly compliant with European Commission competition rules and, more importantly, meeting the needs of our visitors and the tourism businesses following publication of the new Tourism Policy.

Visit Cornwall has introduced a Recognised Local Inspection Scheme standard. This will allow any business that does not wish to participate in the NQAS to be inspected to ensure they meet minimum standards and to be a member of Visit Cornwall, benefiting from our complete range of services.

The schemes ensure tourism accommodation providers meet minimum standards based on the Visit England entry level scheme to make sure that all premises are legal, safe, clean and green. In addition the assessors will be checking that their online presence is a full and fair reflection of the offering as the majority of visitors use the internet to research their holiday options, together with a complaints resolution process.

The local schemes are not an assessment of quality and are definitely not intended to replace the current star ratings. It is complementary to NQAS, and Visit Cornwall will continue to promote and encourage businesses to participate in the NQAS and fully consider all the business and marketing benefits of doing so.

It is hoped that the scheme may encourage those who currently operate with no external inspection at all, to prove that they meet the minimum standards of legislation, fire risk assessments, accessibility, cleanliness, and engage and participate in Visit Cornwall and Tourist Information Centre activities.

Visit Cornwall strongly advises anyone wishing to join one of the schemes to look at which offers the best solution for their individual business needs.

Will there be any differentiation of services between National Quality Assessment Scheme and recognised inspection businesses?

There will be no differentiation and all businesses would be able to be members and access all services provided by Visit Cornwall, including marketing opportunities. However, we do explain on our grading and inspections page the difference between an NQAS and a local Recognised Inspection Scheme businesses. One differential service that is beyond Visit Cornwall’s control is that, at present, VisitEngland will not advertise or distribute locally inspected businesses through their channels.
