The annual 2006 Cornwall Tourism Awards took place at St Mellion Golf and Country Club on Thursday 23rd November. The awards, which are now in their fifth year, are organised by VisitCornwall and have become one of the most prestigious events in the County's tourism calendar. This year the awards were hosted by Daphne Skinnard of BBC Radio Cornwall and Bob McCreadie of Pirate FM.
In all more than 180 businesses entered the awards and over seventy Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were presented to a range of businesses from across Cornwall including hotels, attractions, pubs, restaurants and B&B's. The self catering category proved so hard to judge that for the first time ever in the history of the Tourism Awards two businesses were awarded gold as they were both of exceptional quality and impossible to separate.
The Winner of Winners Award this year went to Hendra Holiday Park. The judges felt that Hendra had proven themselves to be passionate and driven in their pursuit of excellence. Hendra Holiday Park have addresses all of the key features that will assure the long term prosperity of Cornwall, namely investment, care, communication and outstanding quality. Alongside this prestigious award Hendra Holiday Park also walked away with the award for Holiday / Caravan / Camping Park of the Year and the Sustainable Tourism Initiative of the Year award.
