Located in the quaint old streets of East Looe, Lantau Cottage is a stunning former 17th Century Ship Merchants' Cottage. Dating back over 400 years, the property is steeped in a rich history with many original features including Elizabethan panelled walls, beamed and gabled ceilings, oreil windows and a winding staircase that incorporates an original full size ship's mast.
The accommodation is immaculately presented benefitting from quality furniture and soft furnishings and guests will appreciate the attention to detail. The Cottage is ideally situated just a few paces from East Looe’s sandy beach, historic fishing port and many cafes, bars and restaurants.
Lantau can accommodate 8 -9 guests in five bedrooms (3 doubles, 1 twin & 1 single) and is normally let from Saturday to Saturday. The Cottage also has the benefit of nearby allocated parking for 1 car. The Cottage is a no-smoking property and we regret that pets are not permitted.
Within the property, Lantau has an open plan lounge and dining area with a large dining room table and chairs for 10 people and comfortable chairs and sofas. The lounge has a TV with Freeview and there is a wide selection of books, games and CDs available for your enjoyment. There is a well equipped kitchen that includes a fridge, freezer, hob, oven, grill, microwave, toaster and kettle as well as a laundry facilities.
Lantau has five bedrooms: 3 doubles, 1 twin and 1 single. Each bedroom is rich in character with all rooms having their own special identity. The Master Bedroom is very spacious and has a gabled beamed ceiling, 5ft antique pine double bed, antique stripped pine bedside units, matching double wardrobe, and an easy chair. An unusual reading room is accessible from the Master Bedroom and you have to climb 3 steps in the wall and then 3 steps down the other side of the hole in the wall to get to this characterful room which has a gabled ceiling, reading lamp, double aspect window and settee. A twin room is located on the second floor with rustic pine furniture and is perfect for children and adults alike. On the first floor are two double bedrooms and a single bedroom each with original early 17th Century panelled walls. Quality furniture provides ample hanging space and drawers.
The family bathroom is located on the first floor with a quality walk-in power shower, mirror, heated towel rail, wash basin and WC. The ensuite bathroom is on the top floor and has a walk-in power shower with antique gold-effect fittings, character wash basin and WC.
A high chair, travel cot and baby bath are available - please advise if required. Bed linen and towels included in tariff but please bring your own beach towels.
One of East Looe’s Finest Listed Houses
Once one of the most famous restaurants in Looe, Osborne House has been restored to become one of the finest listed houses in the town.Crafted from local slate and stone, Osborne House provides a very spacious family home, perfect for summer or winter. Original features include wooden beams (one of which is reputed to have come from the defeated Spanish Armada), decorative encaustic floor tiles and traditional windows including a stained glass panel and original wooden sash windows. The open plan design is ideal for family and friends and comfortably sleeps 12 in 5 bedrooms including three en-suite doubles, one twin and a double bunk room that sleeps 4. There is also a family bathroom on the first floor which is the height of luxury with an Italian stone floor, bateau style freestanding bath and walk in shower enclosure.
