“The fact that the Royal Naval Pilot, a pretty dower publication at the best of times, describes Cornwall as a cross between the West Coast of Scotland and the Caribbean says a lot about our stunning County. We have it all down here but the cream on top has to be the people and their open friendly attitude; The Cornish still have that special welcoming something that one feels has been lost to many parts of the country”.
Pete Goss, MBE – Internationally renowned yachtsman.
“I have cycled the length of the county, from Land's End to Launceston, and feel I know every hill, valley and furrow along the way. (If you plan to follow in my tyre tracks, two words of advice: 21 gears). I have surfed from Fistral Beach, and bathed in the heroically conceived blend of nature and artifice at the Eden Project. I have wondered at the inspired choice of the mother of future King Arthur to deliver the boy in a location such as Tintagel, whose raw beauty sears itself on the memory. And, at about the same time as I rediscovered the freshness and flavours of local food, Cornwall underwent a gastronomic renaissance to. So much more remains to be seen: I have yet to discover if the Roseland Peninsula is as fragrant as its name; and I must take the short and winding railway to Looe. I can't wait to be back”.

“We bought a house in Port Isaac 15 years ago because it is one of the most photogenic villages in the area and has a year-round community. When we are there, we like to take long walks with our two children and the dogs along the beach at Daymer Bay, or enjoy a spot of retail therapy in Wadebridge or Boscastle. My favourite shop has to be my wife’s gift shop, Charmed, that sells things we have sourced from our travels as well as T Shirts designed by our daughter Cecile and me. I am a retail widower in Cornwall, but I love it. When I can drag Jackie away from the shop we like to pop over to Rocky Valley and picnic on the beach. Cornwall oozes romance.”
Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen – Designer.
“I’ll lay my cards on the table right now. I’m not Cornish. I don’t even live in Cornwall – well unless you count in my dreams, but I have an affinity to Cornwall that’s hard to describe, in truth it’s more like an addiction. Over time my desire to visit Cornwall became insatiable, - ‘Go somewhere else for a change ’ said well meaning friends, concerned about my welfare and my carbon footprint – but it was no good, the sunsets, surf, decent cafes, windswept people and veggie pasties had taken hold. So now I find any and every excuse to come back and despite having travelled the world considerably, Cornwall is without exception my favourite holiday destination all year round”. Kirstie Allsopp presented the 2009 Cornwall Tourism Awards and had the following to say about the county: “As someone who owns a holiday cottage I can appreciate, in a small way, all the hard work and effort that goes into running a successful tourism business, especially in times like these. And, of course, I can also appreciate tourism from a holiday maker’s perspective, having spent a wonderful time here in the summer with my family. Small children know what they like and fortunately, for me, they love Cornwall!” enthuses Kirstie
