Bob Lindo, Camel Valley Vineyard.
With a long list of international awards and accolades to his name, Bob Lindo, founder and proprietor of Camel Valley Vineyard, is a leading ambassador for Cornwall. To mark his passion for the county and unwavering commitment to quality he was bestowed with the Outstanding Services to Tourism award at the Cornwall Tourism Awards 2006. On top of this, last year also saw Camel Valley Vineyard become winners of the Cornish Distinctiveness award for the third time in four years.
Well versed in the Cornwall Tourism Awards entry process Camel Valley Vineyard regard the whole experience, from filling in the form to attending the awards dinner, as beneficial to the company. But don't just take our word for it; hear from Bob Lindo himself...
"Why enter the Cornwall Tourism Awards? For us at Camel Valley there were a number of reasons. Firstly, just feeling part of your regional tourism group is so important, and then just filling out the entry form gives you a quick guide to what you should be doing and what you might be missing out. Being shortlisted, means you will be visited by a 'mystery caller' which keeps you and your staff on your toes and helps you to deal with the occasional member of the awkward squad (by just pretending: 'it's that annoying mystery caller again!')"
"The high quality of the finalists, the great fun evening of the awards, the chance to meet Cornwall tourism's household names all in the same room, and the excellent publicity, all adds up to a unique experience. If you won last year, congratulations, but if you didn't then regroup, reevaluate, make the necessary changes and win this year."
"Our Cornwall Tourism awards are hung proudly on our winery wall. For our family, and our staff, to be recognised as an important part of our local food and drink and tourism community is a great honour."
"Your turn next year? Only, if you enter."
Stephen Hill, Hotel Penzance
Gold was the colour for Hotel Penzance last year after walking away with not one but two Cornwall Tourism Awards. With an eye for those all important finishing touches and a never ending drive to go the extra mile Hotel Penzance's passion for quality was obvious, making them undisputed winners of the Hotel of the Year award in 2006. On top of this triumph the hotel's Bay Restaurant scooped the Restaurant of the Year award proving that the hotel's culture of excellence runs throughout the business.
Unsurprisingly Hotel Penzance feel that the time they took to complete the awards entry form was well spent but how has the hotel benefited in real terms and can the affects of winning be seen on the bottom line...?
"Since winning the awards last November there has been a real buzz around the hotel. Staff are proud to work here and their enthusiasm is rubbing off on the guests. The effect on trade has been particularly noticeable in the Bay Restaurant where customers have been drawn in after hearing about our achievements - keen to see what the fuss is about!"
"Our experience of entering the awards has been 100% positive and we would wholeheartedly recommend it to other businesses. Although I can't say that it wasn't challenging it was definitely worth it and is something that we look forward to repeating this year."
Rob Constant, Cornwall Classic Car Hire.

Founder, Rob Constant, urges other Cornish companies in the tourist industry to follow in his footsteps and take the opportunity to be recognised and rewarded for excellence...
"Entering the Cornwall Tourism Awards demonstrates pride in your product, pride in our wonderful county and shows new and old customers alike that you care about their experience on holiday here."
"Winning any award, of any level, helps set your enterprise apart from other businesses in Cornwall, but also up and down the country. There is quite literally so much to gain and so little to lose from entering! The very process helps focus your mind on key aspects of the tourism experience you offer the ideal preparation as you head into the main season! Go for it!"
