Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week 2008: the best of both worlds...

Apart from a stunning programme of Dinghy and Yacht Racing, organised by the sailing clubs that make up the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association, Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week 2008 promises a week of great music and fun from 9-16 August, alongside the largest regatta in the South West. By popular demand from Falmouth Week party goers, this year’s shoreside evening entertainment will be split between two venues, the Events Square and Princess Pavilion, which will allow people more choice.

On Events Square, this year’s spectacular will see the return of all the favourites alongside some new attractions, making it bigger and better than ever before. Expect 70s night with a bit more flair and a Caribbean night cocktail with an extra twist. All this will take place under cover, so even the English Summer can’t dampen the festivities. The Events Square marquee will host a selection of bands and DJs with fancy dress competitions. The fun won’t stop there, as a timetable of family fun will be on all day and everyday, for those too small for sailing.

Gum & Glue, who brought Events Square alive last year with performances from The Jam and Echo and the Bunnymen, are organising the entertainment at this site along with Falmouth Festivals Ltd, a newly formed partnership for Events Square promotions, and already have some exciting news. A big name headliner is expected to open the week, as Pirate FM help to bring the ‘A’ list to town.

Falmouth born entrepreneur Mark Oliver, Director of Gum & Glue said: “I can’t wait to make Falmouth Week as big as it should be. Bringing some of it back to the Events Square is the first step on the road to bringing the entertainment closer to the sailing. Roll on Summertime!”

Falmouth Week events at Princess Pavilion will this year concentrate on a more focused, quality programme. For Alan Horne at Princess Pavilion, Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week is an important factor in their annual programme of entertainment. Alan and his team are currently working to attract quality acts to Falmouth Week, who might be touring the West Country at that time. Last year Alan was able to book Sophie Ellis-Bextor for our enjoyment. Who will top the bill in 2008???

Commenting on this multi-site approach to Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week, Mark Osborn, Chairman of the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association (PoFSA) said: “To make use of both of Falmouth’s performance venues is great news for the sailing competitors, Falmouth locals and visitors alike. The shoreside programme is very much a community event and is a great example of how Falmouth can work together to make full use of all the facilities available. There will be something to suit everyone’s taste.”

Echoing Mark’s comments, acting Town Manager and Falmouth Week Shoreside Committee Chairman, David Pollard, said: “Key partners, including many volunteers as well as commercial organisations, are striving hard to deliver the best ever Falmouth Week, with a great WOW factor!
