From the Victorian Boating Lake to the Italian Garden, Trevarno is inspiring and refreshing at this time of year. An invigorating walk through majestic trees and out across the rural landscape is certain to lift the spirit, and afterwards a Warm Brandied Spiced Wine, Fairtrade Hot Chocolate or sumptuous cappuccino from Trevarno’s Fountain Garden Conservatory can be enjoyed in front of a warming log fire in the Victorian tea room – the perfect end to a perfect day of Christmas shopping.
“Our Christmas Craft Fair is always a fantastic event,” says General Manager Richard Cox. “Lots of people dread fighting for parking spaces and the big queues in city centres, however here at Trevarno it’s an enjoyable experience discovering gifts that are out-of-the-ordinary, unique and locally-made. The Fair is a sociable and traditional event – families come along to meet each other, there’s plenty to keep the children occupied and it’s a safe and relaxed environment. . You can have a look at all the gifts, handicraft and produce and enjoy a full family day out at the same time. And of course, it’s all free. Christmas is the time for giving after all.”
It may be cold outside but there is no better time to wrap-up warm and enjoy the invigoration of a Cornish day out in early winter. At Trevarno near Helston, the estate and gardens are a tapestry of rich colour, texture and scents. After a bracing walk, the ‘Winter Warmers’ menu in the Fountain Garden Conservatory and the log fire in the Victorian tea room provide an excellent finale to the day.
With magnificent formal, informal and woodland areas, set within 70 acres of enchanting gardens and grounds, Trevarno is a haven that cannot fail to invigorate the physical and emotional wellbeing of the visitor. During this time of year, the unusual eclectic mix of landscapes, sights and attractions are enhanced by the crisp winter sunshine. The grand conifers from around the world play backdrop to the spectacular variety of autumnal leaves as they fall gracefully onto the shimmering lake. Flowers also brighten the mood - none more so than the Schima by the Victorian grotto, now in full bloom.
Visitors should be sure to leave time for Trevarno Catering Manageress Annie Morrison’s seasonal specialities. Annie and her team take the very best of the gardens’ fresh herbs alongside ingredients from the highest quality local providers, creating a delicious and varied menu which offers everything from quick, fortifying snacks to complete three course meals. Throughout the winter, Annie’s special focus will be homemade, chunky soups, hearty main courses and mouth-watering hot puddings.
