6 of the best - Cornish beaches in September

Cornwall has literally hundreds of beaches - big resort beaches, tiny hidden coves, white sand, golden sand, shingle and pebble.  Now that the school holidays are over, you may even be lucky enough to find a quiet little beach and have it all to yourself!

Here are a few favourites ........

For dog friendly ones – the seasonal dog ban is still in place until the end of September on Dog friendly beaches in CornwallCornwall’s main resort beaches, however there are other dog friendly beaches. Just west of Padstow there are three fantastic golden sandy beaches in a row:  Porthcothan, Treyarnon and Constantine Bay.  We welcome responsible dog owners, so please remember to ‘bag it and bin it’.

For sporty types – Watergate Bay, north east of Newquay, is home to the Extreme Academy – this is the place for surfing, kite surfing, traction kites, wave-ski and paddle-surfing.  There’s also a fab beach café if you get hungry.

For surfers – Fistral Beach in Newquay, host of major international and national surfingSurfing in Cornwall competitions, has plenty of room for experts and novices and several surf schools. For a bit of added excitement why not watch the UK Pro Surf Tour Junior surf championships September 18 and 19. And you're never to old to have a go, a Silver Surfer day is being run at Fistral on September 12th, aimed at those aged 50+.  Book on 01637 879571.

If you’re feeling romantic - With the fairytale island castle of St Michael’s Mount as a back drop and a long stretch of golden sand to stroll across, Marazion Beach must be one of the most romantic in Cornwall.  If the tide is out you can walk across to the Mount and explore the castle and island, then take a romantic boat ride back once the tide comes in.

Talland Bay, south east CornwallFor walkers - Talland Bay, although accessible by a single track lane, is best reached by a walk along the coast path between Polperro and Looe in south east Cornwall.  Tucked away and unspoilt, it’s a real gem.

For horseriders - Perranporth is one of Cornwall’s biggest beaches and at low tide there is a huge amount of room for a good gallop. With easy access from the car park, this a favourite amongst Cornish riders..
