A Large expanse of fine golden sand at the foot of steep cliffs, guarantees it is never overcrowded. At low tide the beach is two and a half miles long and it is possible to walk all of the way to Newquay. There are also plenty of rock pools for the children to play in as well as designated safe swimming areas in the sea.
For the enthusiast, the Extreme Sports Academy is based at Watergate Bay, incorporating surfing, power kiting, buggying and kite surfing, with regular events and championships.
Level paths lead down from the car park. Watergate is a dog friendly beach, with seasonal lifeguards, a handful of bars and restaurants and excellent beach facilities including a café and shop.
The Venus Company specialise in the best alfresco style dining experience and have recently picked up the Gold England for Excellence Sustainable Tourism Award. Venus Cafe offers an excellent range of local and organically produced food and drink. Open for breakfast, lunch, ice creams & early evening meals.
The Jamie Oliver inspired Fifteen Cornwall restaurant opened here in May 2006.
