What’s it all about?
Embrace the festive season with a trip to Padstow’s annual Christmas Festival and see this Cornish fishing village come alive with celebrity chefs, culinary delights and festive fun.
A traditional Christmas market is held in a large marquee on the quay side, where stalls are laden with Cornish goodies and gifts. Expect live cookery demonstrations from an array of culinary talent. With Santa’s grotto, fireworks and live music to keep the kids entertained, Padstow’s Christmas Festival certainly offers a great way to make the most of a winter’s day.
Organisers arrange a stellar line up for the Padstow Christmas Festival featuring a who’s who of Cornish food and other big name chefs. This annual celebration attracts thousands of visitors who delight in the unique blend of family-friendly Christmas entertainment, live music and festive food on offer. The four day festival will be hosting some of the UK’s biggest gastronomic heroes.
Chef demonstrations will be taking place inside a specially constructed kitchen with seating for over 250 people. Here the audience will be able to see their favourite culinary stars creating seasonal dishes and sharing tips.
A traditional Christmas market will be on the quayside bustling with local producers and Cornish crafts. Alongside ales, meats, jams and cheeses, restaurants including Fifteen Cornwall and The Seafood Restaurant will be tempting festival goers with tasty treats and Christmas puds. Visitors will be able to soak up the merry atmosphere and shop for Christmas gifts with many stores around the town offering special festival discounts.
Santa will be in residence in his magical grotto at The Padstow Institute and children will be able to take part in special festive workshops, including cake decorating and face painting throughout the weekend. The lantern parade and firework display on Friday evening are also a festival highlight not to be missed.
The excitement continues throughout the weekend with plenty of live music including an appearance from Cornwall’s Fisherman’s Friends, famous for their sea shanties and Cornish folk songs.
How can you take part?
Amid scenic estuary views and carols around the Christmas tree, visitors can soak up the merry atmosphere whilst escaping the hustle and bustle of city life. Food and drink stands will be celebrating all things Cornish with seasonal food and drink on offer. You can also explore Padstow’s boutique retailers during late night shopping or enjoy a meal in one of the town’s renowned restaurants, cafes and pubs. The celebration will culminate with a special Christmas service and carols at the historic St Petroc’s church at the end of the festival.
