Cornwall's summer of music
The coolest artists are flocking to Cornwall this summer to rock out in iconic venues and against amazing coastal backdrops. Here’s just a taste of what the months ahead have got in store.
Masked Ball, Porthleven
20 - 22 May
An immersive multi-level party kingdom populated by a kaleidoscope of cool and crazy characters, all dressed to excess on a cliff-top near Porthleven overlooking stunning Mount's Bay. Headline DJ sets by Basement Jaxx and Groove Armada.
Don’t Wake the Fish, The Gurnard’s Head, nr St Ives
27 – 29 May
A chilled festival to take the kids to, Don’t Wake the Fish brings together a magical mix of live music, arts, food and real ales. Join the 2,500 or so folk who lie about on the lawn of the legendary dining pub, The Gurnnard’s Head, as talented West Country based bands bring the cow-specked moorland alive.
The laidback bill includes The Oggymen, Martha Tilston, Ruarri Joseph and Company B. while DJ Noah will take the party onto the early hours.
Tunes in the Dunes, Perranporth
27 – 29 May
Born in 2015, this sand covered music festival may be a newbie but with Dizzee Rascal and James Morrison already announced it’s one to get your tickets quick for. Set on the beautiful golden sands of Perranporth beach with a backdrop of scenic cliffs and sand dunes – pure Cornwal
They’ve notched up over 50 UK Singles Chart successes and sold over 70 million records, now UB40 are heading to Falmouth to send Events Square into a reggae/pop frenzy.
Eden Sessions, Eden Project
Various June and July dates
Tom Jones, Lionel Richie, Jess Glynne…this years Eden Sessions will be nothing short of legendary! The stage nestles amongst the Eden Project’s iconic biomes creating a unique outdoor music venue.
Incredible music, incredible atmosphere, incredible location – a spine-tingling experience guaranteed.
The Watering Hole, Perranporth Beach
With a budding reputation as one of Cornwall’s premier music venues, this bar on the beach has excelled itself with its mad mix line-up for 2016. This is where anything goes with gigs from East 17, X Factor’s Reggie ‘n’ Bollie, Shayne Ward, the Hoosiers, S Club Party, The Feeling and many, many more. Music with flavour!
Lusty Glaze Headline Sundowner Sessions, Newquay
There’s something quite special about watching live acts perform against the setting sun and beneath starry skies and at Lusty Glaze the towering cliffs and crescent of golden sand produces a natural amphitheatre of exquisite proportions. Experience it with Guy Harvey and Newton Faulkner this June.
Electric Beach Festival, Newquay
8 and 9 July
This summer marks the 5th anniversary of Electric beach, the UK’s greatest beach party, and it’s hyped up to be the biggest and best yet! Hosted at the mecca of surfing, Fistral Beach, top names include New York hip hop legends, De La Soul and the Levellers, with more to be announced.
Rock Oyster Festival, nr Wadebridge
15 and 16 July
Food meets music in this midsummer celebration at the stunning 17th century Dinham House overlooking the Camel Estuary. Get your fill of Cornish oysters, fish currys, pulled pork, gourmet bangers, artisan breads and amazing wood fired pizzas while some of the coolest artists create a unique vibe. There’s also hot tubs and outdoor yoga – what more could you ask for?
29 - 31 July
Exciting independent music festival, described as the greatest house party in a field, consistently showcasing the vanguard of new bands and artists in the UK and beyond. 10th anniversary year so expect something special!
5 – 14 August
What happens off the water is just about as important as what happens on it at this sailing event turned all-round, town celebration. Every evening the party tent takes on a different theme and tension is building for the soon-to-be-announced headline act. Watch this space!
Boardmasters Surf, Skate & Music Festival, Newquay and Watergate Bay
10 - 14 August
While Newquay sees the surf and skate action of this annual festival, Watergate Bay gets to host the main music stage – and boy is that stage gonna be busy! Kaiser Chiefs, James Bay, Deadmau5 and Primal Scream will lead the way with many, many more acts taking their turn across the five days to ensure a music feast of festival proportions.
Little Orchard Cider & Music Festival, Penhallow
9 - 11 September
A charming little Cornish party with some big live bands, a groovy silent disco, BBC Introducing stage, camping and camping, hot tubs, feast evenings, secret cider walks, tractor rides and cider tasting.
Looe Music Festival
23 - 25 September
The Fun Lovin’ Criminals will be one of over 40 bands playing across 3 music stages in this celebration of live music. From jazz and easy listening to folk, indie and rock, expect anything and everything.
