Visit Cornwall has been awarded ‘best overall use of social media for a tourist board’ at the Social Travel Britain Awards 2016. Following a rigorous judging process by a panel of industry experts, who praised Visit Cornwall’s integrated and innovative approach to social media.
Social Travel Britain Awards organiser, Mark Frary comments: "Attracting visitors to Cornwall, with its beautiful beaches, countryside and attractions, has never been hard but it would be easy for a destination marketing organisation to get complacent.”
Mark continues “Visit Cornwall has not done that and has recognised that digital and social media play a huge role in attracting visitors now and in the future, particularly as tourism budgets get smaller. The county’s approach to this is impressive: it engages with people who love and who will come to love Cornwall in lots of different ways, including through Facebook, Twitter and, increasingly, video, often as part of integrated campaigns. Cornwall should be a model for other destinations."
This recent win joins Visit Cornwall’s growing list of digital accolades. Earlier in the year, it was ranked number one in the English Tourism Social Media Index out of 129 regional tourism bodies, beating the likes of VisitLondon and Visit Peak District to the top spot.
The Index praised Visit Cornwall for its engagement and fan growth on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, as well as its rich content strategy. Across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Visit Cornwall has nearly 300,000 followers.
Malcolm Bell, Chief Executive of Visit Cornwall, comments: “Social media is at the heart of our integrated marketing strategy. From using its highly targeted data for advertising, to customer service, we champion social media in a way that delivers real economic value to the Cornwall visitor economy.”
