Cornwall named best destination
Cornwall has been named the Best UK Holiday Destination in the British Travel Awards 2015 for the SEVENTH year in a row!
Having first secured the title in 2009, Cornwall has enjoyed unrivalled success once again by claiming the majority of the public vote to outshine competition from across the country and hold onto its well-worn crown.
The enviable feat was announced on 25 November at a Gala Awards Dinner hosted at Battersea Evolution in London.
“Well done Cornwall! To be named as the nation’s favourite holiday destination for seven years is a truly incredible achievement,” comments Malcolm Bell, Chief Executive of Visit Cornwall. “Each and every person involved in tourism in Cornwall should be proud of this award. It represents strength in our product, brand and future and is a powerful message to be able to shout across the world.
“Thank you to everyone that has contributed to Cornwall’s success and of course, to those who voted.”
Making it an impressive triple gold win for Cornwall the Eden Project also won Best UK Leisure Attraction for a fifth year and Bude was victorious as Best UK Coastal Resort.
“We couldn’t be more delighted with this award. All the vision and local investment that is going into the Bude area – creating new places to eat, places to stay and exciting things to do for visitors to Bude, is clearly appealing to day visitors and holiday visitors alike,” said Mark Hibbard, Tourism Officer and a Director of Bude Area Tourist Board.
“The fact that this award is voted for by visitors makes it all the more special. We represent many Bude tourism businesses working together to provide a thriving and continually improving visitor destination – we look forward to welcoming even more visitors in 2016!”
Gordon Seabright, Managing Director of the Eden Project, who also sits on the board of Visit Cornwall, said: “What a great night for Eden and Cornwall.
“To win these prestigious awards for the fifth and seventh years running is a phenomenal achievement for the Project and for the Duchy.
“Eden’s award is all the more special due to the quality of the other contenders and the fact that we have had a great year all round. Thanks largely to our epic Dinosaur Uproar programme, we had our highest summer visitor numbers for eight years and bookings for Christmas at Eden starting this weekend are at an all-time high.”
