Polgoon is a Cornish Vineyard & Orchard that has successfully produced a range of award winning wines, ciders and juices. They have also diversified their range to include some unique sparkling products, a Sparkling Aval (Cornish for apple), an Elderflower Sparkling wine that they also produce for River Cottage.

John and Kim Coulson, transformed Polgoon Vineyard from a rundown farm to create a flourishing vineyard and orchard where they not only produce and grow the vines but now also have a shop and deli where you can attend tours and tastings. Polgoon products are highly regarded not just in the South West but all over the UK. They can now be bought at the online shop or through retail stockists. If you are in Cornwall please call in to see them:

August 2019

Latest Art Label from Polgoon & Newlyn School of Art by Contemporary Artist Anthony Garratt.

In Cornwall there's always been a natural link between the artist and the landscape.  This connection to land and sea is something John Coulson, winemaker at Polgoon, also feels strongly about and inspired him to approach Newlyn School of Art to commission the tutors to create artwork for the labels of Polgoon's latest limited edition, bacchus white wine.

Anthony Garratt's 'Plucked Mine' was chosen for this year's commission. The painting of a tin mine in Botallack has been created using soil from the mine itself.

"I liked the idea of a painting made with soil," says Coulson. "Our soil is our 'terroir', so I was naturally drawn to something created with the very thing we value so highly."

Anthony Garratt says: "The more I paint, the more I realise that we're at the mercy of the landscape and elements. Cornwall often provides us with weather that makes us feel vulnerable. For me that's what makes it such an exciting place to paint."

The Art Bacchus has fresh, crisp, citrus aromas with gooseberry and elderflower prominent on the palate. It's balanced minerality is reminiscent of Cornish shores. Each bottle from the limited edition of 1500 is signed by the artist and winemaker and individually numbered from 1 to 1500. With every bottle sold, a donation will be made to help support the work Newlyn School of Art does to teach, mentor and support artists from around the country.

Availability: www.polgoon.com, Polgoon Vineyard Shop and selected outlets. £19.95.

Art Bacchus bottles will be available from August 2019 from www.polgoon.com, from the Polgoon Vineyard Shop and at selected outlets: 2 Fore Street, Great Cornish Food Stores, The Mount Haven Hotel, The Tinners Arms, The Porthminster Beach Cafe and Tremenheere Kitchen.
