Cornwall has been revealed as the ultimate all-round visitor destination in the British Travel Awards 2012 by dominating the winners roll and claiming the coveted top spot for everything from overall county to attraction, town and website.

For the fourth consecutive year Cornwall has been crowned Best Holiday County and in an equally impressive feat St Ives has scooped Best Coastal Town for the third time.

Cornwall’s strengths in online marketing and innovation have also been applauded with taking the title of Best Visitor Guide Website.

Meanwhile, double glory has been bestowed on Cornwall’s attractions with the Eden Project claiming Gold for Best Leisure Attraction for the second year running, whilst the Bronze trophy for Best Heritage Attraction went to the Minack Theatre.

To complete the honours that went in Cornwall’s favour Fal River took Bronze for Best UK Coastal Town and Parkdean Holidays which has 24 holiday parks across the UK with 8 in Cornwall, claimed Silver for Best UK Holiday Park Operator.

Joan Symons, Cornwall Council Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Leisure, adds: “These amazing Award titles are all the more credible because they are from the people that count, visitors themselves - the nation has spoken and shown its love for Cornwall. To win awards in what has been a difficult year is testament to the strength of the tourism industry and offers a fantastic basis for 2013.”

Cornwall’s multitude of Awards were announced at last nights (Thursday 1st November) grand gala dinner at the Battersea Evolution in London which was attended by more than a thousand people from the tourism industry and saw VisitCornwall stand alongside premier international brands. 

Over one million people voted in this years British Travel Awards which boast over seventy categories and span every type of holiday experience, making them the largest awards programme in the UK. They are widely referred to as the “Oscars” of the travel industry and are the most recognisable and sought-after accolades in the sector.
