One of Cornwall’s most iconic places, and a location in BBC’s Poldark. The famous Crowns engine houses of Botallack Mine cling dramatically to the foot of the cliffs.  There are light refreshments in the old count house, with information and displays on the history of the Tin Coast and Poldark. There are some fascinating coastal walks that let you explore this area of the Tin Coast.

Botallack is owned and looked after by the National Trust and is able to care and conserve areas like this thanks to their members, volunteers and donors.

Poldark connection:

Location managers couldn’t resist the rich mining heritage of the stretch of west Cornwall coast linking Botallack and Levant. Levant Mine plays the role of the fictional Tressiders Rolling Mill while Owles and Crowns near Botallack stared as Wheal Leisure.

West Cornwall > The Lizard
Located on the west side of the Lizard and probably the most photographed and painted location in Cornwall, the contrast between the cove’s white sand beach and the dark red and green serpentine rock produces a breathtaking sight. A seasonal dog ban operates

West Cornwall > Lands End
A picturesque fishing hamlet in West Cornwall, with some boats still launching from here, Porthgwarra has a small secluded beach just around the corner from Porthcurno.  A seasonal dog ban operates on this beach.

North Coast > St. Agnes
Good Beach Guide Recommended 2015. Get in touch with nature and feel revitalised at Chapel Porth’s wild beach.  A seasonal dog ban opertaes on this beach. 

West Cornwall
Good Beach Guide Recommended 2015: Gunwalloe is an attractive south-west facing cove on the Lizard with a stream running through the sandy beach that is ideal for paddling. A seasonal dog ban is in place.

North Coast
Beautiful golden sandy beach, only accessible at low tide.  Access to the beach is difficult, and down a steep narrow set of steps cut into the cliff. Only for the fit and agile. One of the most popular destinations on the Cornish coast. 

West Cornwall > Sennen

North Coast > Newquay
Good Beach Guide Recommended 2015. This huge beach of golden sand backed by grass tufted dunes is a perfect example of the north coast’s wide open bays large enough for everyone to enjoy whatever comes naturally.
