The mines at Botallack
One of Cornwall’s most iconic places, and a location in BBC’s Poldark. The famous Crowns engine houses of Botallack Mine cling dramatically to the foot of the cliffs. A good path descends down to the two Crowns buildings. The higher one of which can be explored. Do not try to reach the lower engine house or go further around the cliff.
The South West Coast Path passes through the mine ruins and leads east towards Levant Mine whilst heading west takes you past Poldark's 'Wheal Leisure' and onto Cape Cornwall.
Botallack is owned and looked after by the National Trust and is able to care and conserve areas like this thanks to their members, volunteers and donors. There are light refreshments in the old count house, with information and displays on the history of the Tin Coast and Poldark.
