St Ives School of Painting
As featured on the Visit Cornwall Video Showcase on Cornwall’s Art Scene, the School of Painting is situated around the corner from the Tate gallery, within the renowned Porthmeor Studios where artists such as Ben Nicholson, Patrick Heron and Peter Lanyon came to paint. The St Ives School of Painting has provided an inspiring and creative retreat for artists since 1938. Here students can develop skills, learn new techniques, experiment and discuss ideas in a warm and stimulating environment at the heart of a thriving arts community.
Specialising in Painting and Drawing, the School runs a programme of innovative short art courses, workshops and drop in life drawing and covers an array of approaches, subjects and mediums. Courses and workshops are held in the atmospheric studios looking out over the Atlantic Ocean, with many courses spending time outside enjoying the surrounding town and landscape.
Running our courses and workshops are talented and professional artists. Balancing helpful guidance with the freedom to explore at your own pace, they will be there for the novice or the experienced artist to enthuse, nurture skills and build confidence.
Our courses start at 10.00am and finish at 4.30pm and the price includes all materials and field trips. See our website and brochure to get our full listings and book on the website or contact the School office.
Throughout the Summer we run a series of practical art workshops; ideal for those wanting to make their trip to Cornwall really unique.
Sessions will introduce students to everything from the romance of oils to collage and printmaking. Details can be found on our website. Adult workshops are also open to young people 16-18 at a reduced rate of £10 when accompanied by an adult.
All materials are provided, you can just turn up but booking is strongly recommended. Please see our website for most up to date details and to reserve a place.
