A safe and fun experience for all ages and levels of fitness

You will receive a warm welcome at the Elm Farm. We are an independent family owned business and we take pride in helping visitors get the most out of visiting Cornwall. We will answer any questions and make sure you have all the information you need to enjoy your cycling. Visitors return time and time again to repeat this wonderful experience. Cycling from Elm Farm Bike Barn offers a great opportunity to learn about Cornwall’s mining heritage and enjoy exercise in the countryside at the same time.

You will be able to boast “I cycled across the country in a day!”

The main Coast to Coast cycle trail runs for 11 miles from the lovely coastal village of Portreath (North) to Devoran (South), through Scorrier Woods, the Poldice Valley and alongside the stunning Restronguet Creek, and is almost entirely on purpose built cycle paths or quiet country lanes. At a leisurely pace it takes most people less than 2 hours, each way, to cycle the Coast to Coast Trail.

The history behind the trails

The Mineral Tramway Network of trails follows many of the old mining railways that connected the engine houses and mineral processing plants with the busy ports of Portreath and Devoran.

The Coast to Coast Trail closely follows the line of two transport routes. The early horse-worked Portreath tramroad opened in 1812. This was the first surface tramroad in Cornwall. It gave the copper mines around Scorrier and St Day a transport route to the sea at Portreath. The other was the Redruth & Chasewater Railway. This was built from 1825 and linked the town of Redruth and mines around Gwennap, then the richest copper producing area in the world, to the port of Devoran on the south coast.

There are also many other trails you may wish to explore and we can discuss the level of experience and difficulty for each one. There is a trail though to suit every level of ability, all you have to do is relax, cycle and enjoy!
