Across Cornwall, National Trust places are full of warmth, magic and sparkle as the festive season approaches. Wrap up and embrace the chilly days with a family walk around a country estate, or get into the Christmas spirit with carols, open fires and mince pies. There’s lots on offer this season, from a 60-foot Christmas garland to Father Christmas stopping by and festive family trails to wreath making workshops.

Scoot Dancing at Botallack

Presented by Merv and Alison Davey. Learn about Scoot dancing, a traditional Cornish dance that came from mining surface workers in the 1800s.

Join friends of John (The Fish) Langford in an evening of folk music and memories. Friends and audience members are invited to listen and join in.

Penzance Guizers Workshop and Demonstration

The Penzance Guizers will demonstrate a variety of Fury, Troyl and Scoot dances, then take audience members through the tunes, patterns and steps of Cornwall.

Christmas Folk Night
Friday 22 December, 6.30pm
Hosted by Count House Cafe Botallack (not National Trust). Botallack Count House has had many guises over the years, including as a folk club hosting some of Cornwall's greats. In that tradition you are invited to a night of folk music where you are welcome to listen or join in. Doors open at 6.30pm.

The Life of Cornish Miner and Composer Joseph Glasson

Dr Kate Neale explores the life of Joseph Glasson, a Cornish miner who was born in 1855 and emigrated to Australia in 1877. He dedicated his life to music as a composer, conductor and teacher. Booking is recommended to guarantee a seat.

Gwav yn Cornwall - Winter in Cornwall

Delia and Dave Brutherton and guest readers take you through winter in Cornwall with an evening of music, words and song, in both Cornish and English. From new settings of the Wassail to Jack Frost and traditional Cornish poetry.

Cotehele
Christmas at Cotehele: Christmas Garland within the Great Hall
Daily, Sat 18 Nov to Sun 7 Jan (closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day). 10.30am – 4pm
For over 65 years our garden team have continued the tradition to create a 60-ft long Christmas garland using thousands of flowers grown on the estate. Celebrate the festive season with a trip to Cotehele to see the annual Christmas Garland within the Great Hall.

Christmas at Cotehele Mill: A Family Christmas
Weekends, Sat 18 Nov to Sun 10 Dec, Daily from Sat 16 Dec – Mon 1 Jan (closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day), 11am-3.30pm
Follow the festive lights along the stream to discover Cotehele Mill dressed for a Victorian family Christmas and see how the Langsford family celebrated the festive period whilst living and working there.

Let’s Wassail at Cotehele

Join us on a short walk through a mining landscape, guided by one of our volunteers who will highlight key features and tell stories of Godolphin woods, which are not to be missed.

Christmas House Experience
Weekends in Dec (up to 17 Dec). 10am – 4pm
Plan a festive visit to Godolphin this Christmas. With the house and colonnades decorated for Christmas as well as winter walks on the estate, Godolphin is a great place to visit with family over the festive period.

Wreath workshop

Get into the Christmas spirit with wreath making workshops in Godolphin House and see it decorated in its Christmas finery. Our expert florist will teach you how to make a traditional wreath for your front door, using fresh and natural foliage. The cost includes tea, coffee, mulled wine and mince pies and exclusive access to the historic house.

Christmas at Godolphin – candle making workshop

Come and join our resident bee keeper in making bees wax candles using wax harvested from her hives and take away your festive creations. Watch her demonstration on making other bees wax products that you can make at home. Price includes tea and coffee and access to the rest of the site.

Trelissick
An audience with Father Christmas

Father Christmas will visit the stable yard this December with a special story of a Cornish Christmas at Trelissick. Once the storytelling is complete, he’ll hand out a small gift at the end to each child.

Relaxed session with Father Christmas

This is an accessible session aimed at providing a more relaxed and calmer Father Christmas experience. With reduced noise levels and crowds, we hope to create a less stressful environment with Father Christmas.
The festive story of a Cornish Christmas at Trelissick will last approximately 20-30 minutes with time at the end to receive a small gift from Father Christmas. A limited number of ear defenders and sensory aids will be available for use in the quiet sessions on the day and an access statement is available from our website.

Christmas craft fair at Trelissick

Pick up that perfect Christmas gift from the Trelissick craft fair, with a variety of gifts handmade by National Trust staff and volunteers running from 2 - 5 December.

Trengwainton
Trengwainton Christmas Lights
1 – 3 Dec, 8 – 10 Dec and 15 – 17 Dec. Timed entry slots every 15 minutes from 4.30 – 7pm
Community is at the heart of our Lights festival, with lanterns made by local schools and local artists, led by Tough Dough CLC. Stroll through the walled gardens and orchard lit by these creative lanterns and hundreds of fairy lights. Make a Christmas wish by hanging a bauble on the wishing tree and gather your family and friends for a picture at the selfie station. Pop into the bookshop for some winter reading and to make a Christmas craft. Outdoor food vendors will be selling hot and cold drinks, cakes and savouries while the shop will be open for Christmas gifts and treats.

Trerice
Father Christmas at Trerice

This festive season, Father Christmas will be stopping by Trerice to share tales and traditions of Christmases past. Join him in the North Chamber, where you will find him in his familiar robes of red, for 30 minute sessions throughout the day. All children will go home with a small gift.

Christmas choir performances

Get into the festive spirit and listen to a selection of choirs this December at Trerice. The Trerice volunteer choir will be returning to perform in the Great Hall, and we will also have four guest choirs to spread some Christmas cheer.
