A where’s where guide to Port Isaac aka Portwenn

A walk around Port Isaac takes you past many of the Doc Martin exterior locations, look out for:

Doc Martin’s unmistakable surgery, Fern Cottage on Roscarrock Hill

Bert Large’s restaurant is best viewed from Fore Street looking across the harbour to Roscarrock Hill. It’s the private house just below Doc Martin’s surgery (Fern Cottage).

Mrs Tishall’s chemist Find it at the bottom of Church Hill, a double fronted sweet shop by the harbour, and take a tantalising step into the film set for it’s the only interior used for filming (other interiors are shot on a nearby farm in a converted barn studio).

The exterior of the village shop is the Liberal Club.

Louisa’s house, named Sea Cove Cottage, can be seen at 25 Fore Street. It’s a beautifully quaint cottage in a character-filled row on the seaward side.

Portwenn School where Louise is headmistress lives everyday life as The Old School House Hotel. Call in for a bite to eat and a chance to sample Port Isaac’s legendary seafood. The interior school scenes are filmed at nearby Delable School.

The Platt at the heart of the village by the harbour is a regular in the series having first appeared in the very first episode for the lifeboat gala day. It's also famed for being where the Fisherman's Friends would (and still do occasionally) sing thier sea shantys.

Aunt Ruth’s double-fronted, white washed house can be found on Dolphin Street – number 26 to be exact!

The Bay Hotel plays the role of Wenn House in series four. Remember when the Doc made a home visit to Theo Wenn as he’d fallen ill having been locked away in Aunt Joan’s chicken coup? Parked outside is the red van used in filming to promote the Large Restaurant.

The Golden Lion Inn becomes the Crab and Lobster when filming is taking place. Fancy a pint?

The former Central Garage up on New Road doubles as the fruit and veg shop.

Doydens Castle is the ultimate hideaway for two. Mrs Tishell therefore thought she’d made the perfect choice when she used it to reveal her long standing crush on Dr Ellingham in the final episode of series five. It's a nice, if quite strenuous, walk along the South West Coast Path west from Port Isaac to the otherside of Port Quinn.

Please remember that many of the properties used for filming are private residences; please be respectful of their privacy while enjoying Port Isaac.
