Cornish gardens to visit in Spring

Cornwall has some of the most magnificent and beautiful gardens to choose from; here are some to try this Spring

Trebah Garden – near Falmouth
Trebah Garden is a beautiful sub-tropical paradise with a stunning coastal backdrop. The 25 acre garden descends to its own beach on the beautiful Helford River and houses a distinctive restaurant with a Mediterranean-style terrace.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan – St Austell
Discover romantic Victorian gardens and pleasure grounds along winding paths laid out over two centuries ago. Heligan is described as an exotic outdoor Jungle, with over 200 acres waiting to be explored. Don’t miss the famous Mud Maid, Giant’s Head and Grey Lady.

Pencarrow - near Wadebridge
In the grounds of this fine Palladian mansion are Grade II* formal gardens, a large Victorian rock garden and ice house plus 50 acres of parkland, lake and woodland with more than 700 varieties of rhododendrons and many camellias, easily accessible along well-maintained footpaths. Famed for it's snowdrops in early spring.

Caerhays Castle Garden, near St Austell
Caerhays Castle Garden, winner of the Historic Houses Association Garden of the Year 2016 award, boasts magnificent spring woodland gardens with a National Collection of Magnolias. This private estate is set against the backdrop of Caerhays Castle and is open to the public from February to June.

Mount Edgcumbe Country Park
With both formal gardens and acres of country park to explore, Mt Edgcumbe is a delight in the spring. Swathes of daffodils, the National Camilia Collection and some of the tallest rhododendrons this side of the Himalaya. Plus there's a number of follies to explore, and the Orangery, and the views....

Pinetum Park - St Austell
A plantman's paradise with over 6000 labelled rare & unusual plants. Colourful, inspired planting with fine herbaceous borders, water features, shrubberies, formal garden, cottage garden, pinetum, arboretum & Japanese garden.

Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens – Penzance
Set in a beautiful sheltered valley, the woods, stream and dramatic vistas provide a perfect setting for an exotic and sub-tropical garden. The garden boasts spectacular views of Marazion's St Michael's Mount and has a wide collection of art throughout.

Antony Woodland Garden - Torpoint
With stunning river views down to the Lynher, this hidden gem in south-east Cornwall is renowned amongst garedeners for its collection of camellias, magnolias and rhododendrons. In the spring the ground is carpeted with primroses, bluebells and wild garlic, providing a contrast against the rich green grass.

Enys Garden - Penryn
The Sleeping Beauty of Cornish Gardens, abandoned for 60 years and now being slowly restored. The tranquil gardens blend into the surrounding woodland with perhaps the greatest glory being Parc Lye, which in early May becomes a huge field of English bluebells, and drawing visitors from far and wide.
