Insider's guide to Newquay

What do you love about most Cornwall? I love the dramatic scenery which is everywhere you go, no matter what the weather.

Must see sight? Everyone should head to Bedruthan Steps, wow factor doesn't even begin to cover it. The landscape boasts smugglers coves, shipwrecks and a rank of colossal, pointed stacks. Find out about the Bedruthan Giant beforehand.

Must do experience? Being the UK's surf capital, I would say every visitor should give surfing a try on one of 11 beaches nearby. There are plenty of well trained surf instructors, who can kit you out with a board and wetsuit and promise you a fun afternoon.

Most people don’t know but… During the winter months the population of Newquay is around 22,000. In the summer season, this can increase to over 100,000.

Souvenir you must take home? Most definitely a cream tea set, so you can enjoy delicious Cornish clotted cream, homemade scones and jam, whilst reminiscing over holiday photos (Roddas cream can be delivered fresh to your house).

Local delicacies to try? A Cornish pasty or fish & chips, just watch out for the seagulls! (please don't feed them)

Local tipple? Rattler Cider made just down the road at Healy’s Cyder Farm.

Best viewing spot? Huers Hut situated on Towan's Head. It's a very old building, steeped in history and heritage for the town and the fishing industry in Cornwall. The panoramic views are breathtaking.

Best place to explore on your own? Any of the local beaches and coves. The golden sands and turquoise water are to die for.

Best place to see with a guide? The Gannel Estuary that connects Newquay and the small village of Crantock. There is an abundance of wildlife and history to explore here. Come at high tide and kayak through all the nooks and crannies.

The best place for shopping? Newquay has lots of little shops that have beautiful little trinkets and souvenirs to take back to family and friends. Stroll through the high street and find a shop that sells traditional Cornish fudge. It is so delicious.

Where is a must-visit which will keep the kids entertained? Visit Trenance Leisure Park, where you will find the Boating Lake, Trenance Gardens, Play Park, Crazy Golf, Little Train, Newquay Zoo, and the Wooden Waves skate park.. something for everyone! The Lakeside restaurant sells high quality food, great for lunches and dinner.
