Spend a weekend in...Rame Peninsula

The Rame Peninsula is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with a landscape of tidal creeks, sandy beaches, lush farmland and country parks. It has magnificent scenery with quiet secluded beaches to explore.

Small villages hide at the heads of creeks, waiting to be discovered, whilst the stretch of coast fronting onto Whitsand Bay offers fantastic views and great walking along the South West Coast Path.

Unspoilt Fishing Villages

Rame Peninsula encompasses many stunning small villages including Antony, Cremyll, Millbrook, St.John, Sheviock, Downderry and Seaton. For many the highlights are the popular villages of Kingsand and Cawsand, full of colour washed old cottages and narrow streets giving fantastic views of Plymouth Sound.

Beaches

Beautiful secluded beaches can be found in this area. Kingsand and its neighbouring beach at Cawsand are east-facing beaches of sand and shingle close to the villages. There are rock pools and inlets for children to play in. Both are popular beaches with families and are Marine Conservation Society Good Beach Guide Recommended for excellent water quality. The stunning coastal scenery of the Rame Peninsula can be seen along Whitsand Bay. It offers three miles of stunning beachs' from Rame Head to Portwrinkle and is considered one of Cornwall’s hidden gems.

Walks

The best way to explore the Rame Peninsula is through the spectacular walks that the area has to offer. Following the South West Coast Path you can take a circular route from Kingsand along a high path over coastal heathland, giving breathtaking views out across the English Channel as you pass by Cawsand and Penlee Point. Another fantastic walk is the one out to Rame Head Chapel. It is a high headland with a bird's-eye view of the stunning coast for a long way in both directions.

But possibly the jewell in the crown of the area is Mount Edgcumbe Country Park where you can walk through formal gardens, open parkland and coastal woodland. In the spring rhododendrons tower over landscaped pools and daffodils surround follies. We challange anybody to not enjoy a walk there!

House and Gardens

The Rame Peninsula is an area filled with heritage and you can find out more if you visit one of the beautiful houses and gardens. As well as Mount Edgcumbe, there's also Antony House and Garden which is a beautiful early 18th-century mansion with a fine collection of paintings, furniture and textiles. The woodlands are also open to explore, but seperate from the house. At St Germans is Port Eliot House and Garden one of the most beautiful places in Cornwall.

Art & Culture

The Tunes in the Park Festival at St Germans is probably the biggest event to take place on the Rame Peninsula during the year. Mount Edgcumbe has a program of events throuout the summer from car shows to Fairy Festivals. The area is also rich in individual galleries and many of the local pubs have live music.
