Spend a weekend in… Sennen Cove

Spend a weekend in…Sennen Cove.

Sennen Cove is Cornwall’s most westerly surf hotspot, with a long sandy beach and small harbour. The cove combines working fishing port with laid back surf style and makes for relaxed day at the beach in a breathtaking location.

At this iconic seaside cove, you often find the full force of nature’s Atlantic rolling swells. When the sea is calm, Sennen Cove becomes a paradise that’s home to dolphins, seals, basking sharks, and of course some great surf.

Family friendly

Some of Cornwall's wildest beaches can be more difficult to access with kids and their paraphernalia but Sennen Cove combines eye-popping scenery and sandy-bottomed surf with easy access and plenty of facilities.

Surf

There are plenty of surf and beach hire shop facilities for hiring beginner surfboards, intermediate surfboards, wetsuits, body boards and fins. For those of you not wanting to go into the water you can hire deck chairs, sun loungers and windbreaks. Don’t forget to always keep safe at the beach and read our beach safety tips.

Walking

You can happily spend all day on the beach enjoying one of the best of nature’s playground but if you fancy a walk it's only a mile's stroll along the South West Coast Path to Land’s End.

The South West Coast Path team describe the walk from Sennen to Land’s End as a 'walk with spectacular views and both wildlife and historical interest'. You can vary the length and difficulty of the walk to suit your needs as there are three options for returning to Sennen. The abundance of wildflowers makes this a brilliant walk in spring, when shags and cormorants can be seen offshore and the cliffs are noisy with nesting fulmars, kittiwakes and guillemots. In autumn the flocks of seabirds passing in strong winds sometimes include a rare Sabine's gull and the stubble in the newly-harvested fields is alive with linnets and buntings feasting on the fallen seeds.

If you've got buggy-bound children, follow the National Cycle Trail. For most, the appeal of Britain's most south-westerly point is in the rugged scenery and views to Longships Lighthouse, but for children who prefer lots of entertainment, there's a crop of tourist attractions, including a 4D film experience.

Insider tip:

If you don’t fancy the walk, it’s still worth worth taking a brief walk up to Sennen’s old coastguard lookout to experience the amazing vistas.
