Porthminster Beach

Porthminster Beach is a classic crescent of golden sand, clear azure sea and waving palm trees; with glorious views across to St Ives Bay to Godrevy Lighthouse. As of 2024, Porthminster Beach has been awarded the Seaside Award which celebrates the commitment to environment, water quality, and safety of the beach.

Adored by artists, rain or shine, for the superb quality of light, it’s no surprise that St Ives’ Porthminster beach has been recognised with a Blue Flag. One of a handful of Cornish beaches to hold such a prestigious award, it’s the gold standard for beaches for their environmental and quality standards. Located just a short walk from the centre of St Ives, with an abundance of cafes, shops, art galleries, and restaurants, this breath-taking beach is a family favourite for safe swimming, whilst onshore there are deck chairs to hire and mini golf to play.

Parking: Car park overlooking the beach but can get very busy. Try parking at St Erth Park & Ride and enjoy the scenic branch line that brings you into St Ives Station, overlooking the beach.

Lifeguards are on patrol between 10am-6pm each day between 18th May to 29th September. (2024)

Dogs are banned from the beach between May 15th and September 30th, between the hours of 10am and 6pm. Dogs are welcome at all other times.

Sand chairs provided by Cornwall Mobility in partnership with Disability Cornwall and Isles of Scilly may be available from Porthminster Beach Cafe. Telephone: 01736 795352
