Perranporth is the gateway to one of Cornwall’s most popular and spectacular beaches where the miles of golden sand, huge surf and sand dunes, jam-packed with wildlife all combine to make a pretty impressive location. Surrounded by countryside that inspired Winston Graham’s swashbuckling Poldark novels, the busy village has plenty of family eateries serving up traditional food along with many cafes and bars that cater for the beach crowd. For the more active, there are surf and kite buggy schools on the beach and from the village the coastal footpath provides some great walking

  • From the village, Perranporth Beach is easily accessible which is ideal if you’ve got young ones in tow
  • Walk along the soft sand to Ligger’s Point two miles way if the tides out and enjoy a gentle stroll back along the dunes which are home to birds and butterflies and tiny sunbathing lizards
  • Learn all about the life and times of Perranporth at the local museum. Open all year, the museum features costume displays, a replica of a traditional Cornish kitchen and an exhibition of early surfboards
  • Enjoy golfing at it’s best with stunning views over the beach, or if you want a small game of pitch and putt
  • Stop off for a picnic in the seafront Promenade Gardens and a hire a boat to row around the lake
  • Get a slice of country living at the Perranporth Country Market held all year round every Friday at the Memorial Hall 10am-12pm. Home grown fruit and vegetables and locally produced honey and homemade cakes
  • Head about two miles east to the village of Rose where you’ll find Perran Round, an Iron Age fort that during the Middle Ages was used as a ‘Plen an Gwari’, a performance place for miracle plays to entertain pilgrims and thought to be one of the oldest theatre spaces in the UK. Follow B3285
