Loe Bar Beach

Loe Bar beach is a half mile sand and shingle bank that separates The Loe, Cornwall’s largest natural freshwater lake, from the sea.

Within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Loe Bar beach originally formed the mouth of the river Cober which led to a harbour in Helston. However, by the 13th century the bar had cut Helston off from the sea and formed The Loe.

Not considered safe for swimming due to its strong currents, Loe Bar beach is popular amongst cyclists and walkers. It’s dog-friendly year-round and can be accessed via the South West Coast Path from Porthleven or from Helston, where bike hire is also available.
