Antony Woodland Garden

One of Cornwall’s most beautiful hidden gardens, running along the edge of the Lynher Estuary and renowned for its collection of camellias, magnolias and rhododendrons.

Described as Cornwall’s best kept secret, Antony Woodland Garden is a haven to discover. An International Camellia Garden of Excellence, it also houses the National Collection of Camellia Japonica. The 100 year old Asiatic Magnolias tower over Westdown valley, while beneath rhododendrons and camellias add splays of colour. In season the understory is carpeted with snowdrops, primroses, bluebells and wild garlic, providing a contrast against the rich green grass. Over the last two decades interesting pieces of contemporary sculpture have been added to the garden, including a ferocious looking Green Man, by Cornish sculptor Tim Shaw.

The highlight though has to be the simply stunning riverine views along the Lynher, where egrets, cormorants, shelduck and oyster catchers swoop low over the water. On a still day the garden is one of the most tranquil places in Cornwall.

A single ticket for the Antony Woodland Garden costs only £9, which admits one person and up to two children under 16.

Currently there is an offer available to all Great Gardens of Cornwall and National Trust members and NT day ticket holders (the latter valid only when Antony House is open) who may visit the Garden and Woodland Walk at a discounted entrance fee of £2.
