National Trust Lizard & Penrose
Penrose is a mix of woodland tracks, farmland, open parkland and stretches of coastline. Loe Pool sits at its heart, the largest natural freshwater lake in Cornwall, and is cut off from the sea by a broad shingle bar heaped up by heavy Atlantic seas. There are 16 miles of trails to explore on foot, bike or horseback, including a 6 mile loop around the pool.
There's plenty to entertain the family with at Penrose, including wildlife watching across Loe Pool, wandering one of the many woodland trails and exploring on bikes throughout the parkland. Take a moment to rest & relax and in the walled garden or join in one of the regular social walks led by our volunteer walk leaders. Dogs are welcome to explore across the whole estate but please keep them under control and on a lead around livestock.
The Stables café is situated in a 1780s stable block at the centre of the parkland, serving sandwiches, hot toasties, drinks, cakes and scoop ice cream. There are water bowls & free treats for all canines in The Stables cafe.
Enjoy a rest & refuel in the outdoor seating in the courtyard or in the new indoor seating area, home to the second-hand bookshop. All funds from the sales of books goes into the ongoing care of the walled garden, an eighteenth century kitchen garden being lovingly restored by volunteers into a community space, which sits behind the café.
