Cornwall Pride 2020
An annual chance for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people in Cornwall, their friends and families to get together and celebrate diversity. Cornwall Pride began in its current format in 2008 after a group of LGBT people decided to run a public open event for all to enjoy. It soon became clear that there was tremendous support for the organising committee.
The Pride Parade is a celebration of Cornwall and diversity, the day starts with a parade through the streets of Newquay with floats and hundreds of people taking part. Always a spectacular sight is one of the UK's longest rainbow flags as it flows through the streets with music getting everyone dancing.
We form up at Beach Road Car Park at midday (12PM). If you are in the parade, it is advisable to arrive from 11am to make sure everything is in place ready for the parade to start at midday. There is still time to join the parade, which can be done on the Pride website here.Hundreds will line the streets to watch as colourful floats, dancers and music head through the streets of Newquay. The procession will move from Beach Road to Gover Lane and then on to Bank Street. It will then move on to East Street, turn left into Bridge road and then left again into Trebarwith Crescent, from there it will move to the finale area of Killacourt, which it will reach at around 1pm.
Rainbow Fest is an amazing family friendly event with lots to see and do. There are stalls from organisations and groups within Cornwall and the UK offering advice and support as well as fun games to play, face painting and a whole lot more. There is a range of hot and cold food available as well as things to buy. There is an open space and well kept gardens so you can sit down and enjoy the live music in a safe friendly space.
