Cornwall Motorsport Month
This September will see the popular Cornwall Motorsport Month return for a second year, offering the opportunity to bring together the entire county to celebrate both two and four-wheeled motorsport.
Whilst Cornwall is often regarded as a mecca for eager surfers, foodies and those seeking a staycation hotspot, the extreme southwestern peninsula of England is also an impressive haven for a diverse range of motorsport. Cornwall Motorsport Month will once again aim to highlight the opportunity for enthusiasts or casual followers to get involved in a myriad of events that are scheduled during the month.
First devised in 2019, the initiative was created to champion the diverse range of motorsport events that take place in the area, underline the rich heritage, as well as increasing interest in the sport. The initiative has also been designed to help the region bolster visitor numbers throughout September, just as the county winds down after the Summer season.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic has seen flagship events such as the impressive closed-road Watergate Bay Speed Hillclimb, which tackles the coast road between Padstow and Newquay cancelled in 2020, there is a myriad of other events taking place, with something for every enthusiast to get stuck into, whether competing, volunteering or meeting up with like-minded folk (both virtually and in-person – socially distanced of course).
Spread across the month, you’ll find a host of events for enthusiasts, including Autosolo’s, Autotests and Sprints.
Taking place on Saturday 5th September is an online Table Top Rally, offering the chance for budding co-drivers or experienced navigators to test their map-reading skills from the comfort of their own home. The virtual rally is open to anyone and is free to enter, enabling existing competitors, spectators or enthusiasts to get involved.
For those wishing to sample the fast-paced sport of Karting, there will be the opportunity to take part in a Karting Challenge at St Eval on Saturday 26th September. The event first ran last year, with Motorsport UK Chairman David Richards CBE joining the fun.
Other events are planned and further information will be released in the coming weeks subject to COVID-19 restrictions.
September offers the chance for anyone in the region to get involved with motorsport of any discipline and explore what opportunities are available within the sport.
