What’s it all about?

Lowender Peran, the Festival of the Celts in Cornish, is an annual five day event with over 300 performers, celebrating the distinctive heritage of Cornwall's traditional music, dance, songs, storytelling and the county’s links to Brittany, Ireland, the Isle of Man and Scotland. A fun, family friendly event, the weekend consists of Ceilidhs, Family Activities, Workshops, Music Sessions, Sing-a-Longs, Craft Fayre, Storytelling, Poetry, Cornish Wrestling, Gin Tasting and much more!

What happens?

Lowender Peran is a registered charity set up to encourage recognition of Cornwall`s heritage and Celtic links as a vibrant, living tradition that people of all ages and backgrounds can participate in and enjoy. The festival program includes dance demonstrations and tuition, workshops in Celtic music and singing along with plenty of live performances by bands and soloists from across the Celtic nations.

How can you take part?

During the festival you can take part in Celtic dancing, listen to acoustic folk song sessions and attend some Cornish language classes, there’s even a Cornish language karaoke. Listen to some traditional local storytelling and join in the afternoon cabaret and family dance over tea and saffron cake.

Did you know?

Two miles east from Perranporth at the village of Rose you’ll find Perran Round, an Iron Age fort that during the Middle Ages was used as a ‘Plen an Gwari’, a performance place for miracle plays to entertain pilgrims and thought to be one of the oldest theatre spaces in the UK.
