House of The Dragon filming locations in Cornwall

The House of the Dragon has been a phonomenal success in 2022 and it is no wonder that Cornwall was used as a backdrop for some of the fictional locations of the series.

Matt Smith and Emma D’Arcy (Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen) were spotted during a beach scene on Holywell Bay, just outside of the surfing capital of Newquay. Holywell Bay has to be one of Cornwall’s most scenic beaches; a wide open bay flanked by grassy dunes which appear to go on forever. We can truly understand why this location was chosen as we know many visitors come back time and time again.

Kynance Cove, famous for its white sand and bright turquoise sea, features in episode two as The Stepstones of Westeros; a small group of rocky islands, just south of Kings Landing. Famous in it's own right, do check tide time before your visit or you will have wet toes.

A compelling setting for Driftmark (the ancestral seat of House Velaryon) this rocky island castle is spectacular in its own right. Steeped in legend and history, St Michaels Mount has weathered many times of battle.

A second series has already been announced and we look forward to welcoming cast and crew back to this neck of the woods.
