Discover the Rich Heritage and Vibrant Culture of Trewellard and Pendeen
Trewellard and Pendeen are old tin mining villages and very well appointed, with a shop that sells most things, two very contrasting restaurants and three pubs - the Trewellard Arms is a very brief walk from the cottage and boasts a wonderful menu and excellent local beers.
The welcome is always very warm. It is only three miles from the most westerly town in Cornwall, St Just. Grenfells is just a walk from Levant Mine overlooking the sea. The National Trust is responsible for firing the huge Beam Engine several times a week. Less than a mile down the main North Coast road is the famous Geevor Mine, now a heritage museum. Pendeen Lighthouse is just a little further on.The area is famous for its Festivals.
The culteral calendar of Cornwall is punctuated by numerous historic and community festivals and celebrations. In particular there are strong links between parishes and their patronal feast days, especially in this part of Cornwall. There is also a tradition of holding celebrations associated with tin mining and fishing...and music, dance music and poetry as Penzance's Mazey Day, preceded by Golowan week. August Bank Holiday sees the Newlyn Fish Festival. These are just a couple of examples; the area is rich in Saints days. Finally, it is important to mention the St. Ives Festival; a major event of art, literature and music that takes place every September.
