    A little piece of history...

The earliest parts of Nancealverne House date from Elizabethan times but the house was significantly enlarged in the 1700s and there were further changes funded by prize money received from the Battle of the Nile at the end of the 1700’s. Since it was built, the house has been the home of soldiers, sailors, tin mining entrepreneurs, gentry farmers and members of the legal profession. Many of these individuals and their family members are shown in the collection of portraits at the house. You may wish to enjoy spending time exploring the history of the house and its former occupants and learning about the momentous times they lived in.

The grounds and ornamental lake were laid out centuries ago and have been preserved as a labour of love, giving pleasure and providing scope for childhood dens and adventures. Beyond the summer house, the Victorian terrace provides a level place to stroll and from the far end an intriguing path leads through rhododendrons down to the woods and lake.

The gravel drive sweeps around the large circular front lawn to arrive at the impressive front of the house. The accommodation comprises the majority of the ground floor and the entire first floor.

Large, comfortably furnished, high ceilinged rooms, with light flooding in through elegantly proportioned 18th Century windows, overlook the landscaped parkland.

The elegant interior breathes history, built with prize money from Nelson’s Battle of the Nile. Historical authenticity is retained alongside modern facilities, with full oil central heating and Wi-Fi. The cosily refurbished rooms, wood fire and Victorian rocking horse will delight both children and adults.
