Ship Ashore

Welcome to Ship Ashore

Ship Ashore sits on the edge of the historic Abbey Basin and is just a short amble from the ferry for The Isles of Scilly.

Built in the 1960's in the image of a boats interior the cabin has portholes and a galley. The cabin is an iconic building in Penzance which monopolises the word quirky - there is even a cannon for those looking to keep rowdy pirates at bay.

There are twin beds with a view looking out over the harbour ensuring that during your stay you'll feel connected to the sea at all states of the tide.

There is a large garden to enjoy with numerous seats and the private gated access ensures you will not be disturbed.

    Location, location, location...

Ship Ashore is a few yards from the sea and was created in the image of a ship with boaty things such as port holes & a galley. Being based upon a ship please bear in mind that some door frames are low and the beds are slightly more narrow than normal single beds (61cm).

The shower is located in an outside room and bathrobes have been provided if required within the cabin there are many hidden gems to find such as a reversible glass rack which was 'borrowed' from a local boat when it came in for repairs.

Throughout the area there are items of interest and the cannon in the garden came from a family in St Ives who had it in their family for 150 years The cabin first appeared in the Abbey Basin area in the early 1960's and was placed in its current spot by a well known local diver called Roland Morris (Roland has a legendary local status for discovering wrecks and written many books on the subject).

The location couldn't have been better! Very close to the bus and train station so easy to get to as we don't have a car. The facilities were very nice and clean and fit with the unique look of the cabin. Couldn't fault the decor, very cute! I was amazed at how close it was to Penzance, tucked away in a nice little plot. I loved how I could sit in the garden with a cup of tea in the morning watching the swimmers and the waves. After our comfortable stay we will definitely be coming back again soon!

A great base, to explore Cornwall...

We live locally and have a great passion for the area. We are proud to have restored the cabin to it's gorgeous condition which my great-grandfather originally created for Roland Morris. We are fortunate to have had some amazing advice from local gardening professionals which will result in flowers and beautiful plants for most of the year.

Being the closest property to the sea in the Penzance area Ship Ashore is lucky to have an unrivalled view. The area is accessed by the main gate and once shut guests can enjoy their stay in their own space overlooking the harbour.

The area has had a lot of interesting use and originally was the site of the local Blacksmith.

We do hope now that you can have a relaxing stay at Ship Ashore and enjoy the closeness to the harbour and the history surrounding Abbey Basin.
