National Trust Antony House

A house of silver grey stone, Antony is a beguiling mixture of the formal and informal. It's believed to be one of the finest surviving Queen Anne buildings in the West Country.

View the outstanding collection of portraits, including works by Sir Joshua Reynolds and a famous painting of Charles I during his trial. There are also fine examples of period furniture, textiles and tapestries.

Breathe in the sweeping views as you explore the landscape garden, which includes a formal garden with topiary, modern sculptures and a historic collection of daylilies.

The house sits high above the River Lynher with sweeping views over the landscape. The beautifully situated house is built from a rare Pentewan stone, which glows a silvery grey in the sunlight and gives the building its distinctive colour.

A visit to Antony has the personal touch and the spirit of collecting is still alive. Expect to see 200-year-old portraits hanging next to 20th-century glass ornaments. The latest generation of Carew Poles live in the house today, so you might even spot their favourite toys.

Antony is a house full of faces and personalities. Generations of the Carew family look down from gilded frames as you walk through the rooms. A rich family history tells of English Civil War intrigue and the remarkable scholarship and creativity of an aristocratic family.

Designed by landscape architect Humphry Repton, the garden offers sweeping views looking out to the River Lynher, floral displays and glimpses into the lives of past residents of the house. There's also a formal garden full of surprises such as intriguing sculptures.
