Beach finds jewellery making workshop: 8th September

Spend a relaxing, creative and eco-friendly day making cool and contemporary jewellery out of found materials from the beach.

Professional jewellery-maker Sarah Drew will take you beach combing for sea glass, sea string, driftwood, pebbles and shells to make into quirky modern jewellery.

Use your finds to practice useful jewellery-making techniques such as wire-work, using tiger tail, crocheting with wire and sea-string, threading and other textile techniques to incorporate the morning’s recycled booty into lovely, wearable statement pieces — necklaces, chokers, cuffs and bling rings.

This laid-back workshop is perfect for beginners with some challenges thrown in for more experienced makers too. The techniques are easy to learn, while the materials used are easily available and affordable so you can continue making at home.

The workshop also includes a delicious roast lunch, to keep you re-energised and inspired!

Floral Crown Workshop: 12th September

Kerry from Rare Creations grows beautiful flowers in her garden just a stones’ throw away from us in St Eval. Join her for a creative evening creating your own floral crown from some of her gorgeous flowers. Feel free to bring any of your favourite blooms with you from your own garden. You can also incorporate other found and foraged items, from feathers and dried flowers to vintage pieces of jewellery: you can make it as unique and personal as you like.

Your beautiful flower crown is the perfect late-summer accessory, and can also last for year’s to come – you can just keep adding new fresh flowers.

Level: The course is suitable for beginners, but not suitable for children.

Baking at Bedruthan: 15th September & 10th November

Spend the day trying your hand at seasonal breads and other baked treats. From artisan baguettes to tasty doughnuts, learn the techniques and bake your breads in our sea-view garden room. Our talented in-house Bedruthan bakers, Gregory Huxford and Chris Squire, will take you from beginner to baker and you’ll leave with your freshly baked loaves and with the skill to continue your bread-making at home. You will also be treated to a two-course lunch in our Wild Café.

Fused Glass Workshop: 19th September

This evening workshop is a wonderful taster into the beautiful world of fused glass. Run by Lisa Macfarlane of Art of Glass who has years of experience of glass craftsmanship. By the end of the class you will have created a stunning glass panel ready for firing. Lisa will be able to fire the piece for you in own kiln off site and it will be ready for collection two weeks after the workshop.

Level: The course is suitable for beginners, unsuitable for small children, but over 12s are fine.

Beginners Modern Calligraphy Workshop: 29th September & 17th November

This workshop is perfect for those who are looking to expand their creative side. Run by Wild Sea Calligraphy and hosted at Bedruthan you will spend the morning with us learning how to create basic shapes with your calligraphy pen whilst working towards mastering the modern calligraphy alphabet and basic phrases.

By the end of the workshop you will have gained the confidence to be able to create your own quotes and favourite words to take home and impress your friends. You will also receive your very own calligraphy kit, as well as some delicious tea and cake.

Level: The course is suitable for complete beginners, but not suitable for children.

Taster Screen Printing Workshop: 29th September & 17th November

Looking over the beautiful coastal view of Mawgan Porth beach, relax and take part in this creative taster workshop, learning how to screen print your own cushion cover, tea towel or tote bag to take home with you. Come along and have a go at something new, this taster class will teach you the basics of screen printing. The perfect opportunity to see how screen-printing works, ask questions to experienced printmakers and enjoy the process.

Printmaker and designer Dena O’Brien will guide you through each step to create your own unique prints. To help create your design Dena will provide you with lots of visual inspiration from books, cut outs to sample screen prints.

The workshop includes refreshments and delicious cake from our deli.

Level: The course is suitable for beginners and those with basic screen printing knowledge, but not suitable for children.

Crochet your own bobble hat workshop: 6th October

Do you love colour, textiles and creating? This day of crochet may be just for you. The lovely Claudine of Iron Lamb is a local crochet and knitwear designer who creates bright and beautiful crochet designs just down the road from us. She will teach you the basics of crochet: from the main stitches to work with to the types of wool you can use.

Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can work on creating your very own cosy bobble hat, perfect for these cooler months. You can choose to crochet a single colour, two colour or three colour bobble hat (for the more ambitious). You will use beautiful chunky 70% acrylic/30% merino wool in a choice of bright and more mellow colours. A perfect gift: for yourself, or a very lucky loved one. Claudine is also able to teach left-handers too. Everyone will also receive a printed copy of her 7-page hat pattern so that you can create more beautiful bobble hats at home if you wish.

In the middle of the day, you’ll be re-energised with a delicious roast Sunday lunch.

Flower Arranging Workshop: 10th October

Kerry from Rare Creations grows beautiful flowers in her garden just a stones’ throw away from us in St Eval. Join her for a creative evening creating your own gorgeous floral arrangements.

Kerry will bring plenty of her own wonderful blooms with her, but please also feel free to bring any of your own with you you’d like to learn to arrange. Learn the basics about flower cutting and conditioning, along with flower care and preservation to make the most of your arrangements to ensure they last longer. You’ll create some of your own arrangements, and can try your hand at creating a bouquet if you like, using fabric tape to secure your creations. You can be as creative as you like, using big bold flowers and shapes, or smaller, simpler arrangements: they can be as individual as you!

A lovely way to catch up with friends, or to make new ones, you can also use the time to discuss flower growing with Kerry so you can have a go at growing your own flowers at home too.

Festive Flower and Driftwood Creations Workshop: 21st November

Kerry from Rare Creations is an experienced teacher in interior design, decoration and floristry, and runs a beautiful flower farm a stones’ throw away from the hotel in nearby St Eval. On this unique workshop you’ll collect a selection of items that inspire you from her gardens, hedgerows and from nearby beaches – but you’re also welcome to bring any additional items with you to reuse and recycle.

Kerry will give you tips and tricks about creating floral pieces and how to combine colour and texture for different effects, including information about flower preservation and how to add different items in the future. In this evening workshop you’ll then select willow and driftwood to begin creating festive wreaths and/or table decorations, using wire and string to support the structures. You can be really creative using a mixture of different materials, with no limits to your imagination!

This is the perfect evening for beginning your festive preparations, you can create a beautiful gift for someone, or keep it to decorate your own table, whilst gathering knowledge and inspiration to continue making beautiful festive decorations.
