Cornwall Design Fair
The Cornwall Design Fair, in association with Hidden Art returns to Trereife House in August, with top contemporary designers from Cornwall and beyond offering a huge range of products for sale – from furniture, textiles and ceramics to jewellery, glass, fashion accessories, lighting and more.
There will be something for everyone, with over 80 designer-maker stalls in two large marquees, design-led activities for children, live entertainment and a curated design exhibition inside the house. Now in its eighth year, the Cornwall Design Fair has established itself as a celebration of the quality and diversity of contemporary Cornish design. With increasing national press coverage and with visitor numbers previously exceeding 5000, the appeal has widened to designers from further afield, all drawn to the inspiring setting of Trereife House, the beautiful Queen Anne ancestral home of the Le Grice family located in one of the most historically creative areas of Cornwall, Penwith.
A particular highlight is the Curated Exhibition inside the house, where visitors will be able to see the beauty of the interior once again reflected in the work of the designers taking part. The current design trend of taking inspiration from the historic to create the contemporary is embodied in this fascinating exhibition, it is rare to see contemporary work displayed amongst the very objects or surroundings that have inspired it hence the special interest in this project. The workshops and demonstrations show the visitor one more stage of the design process, giving a further insight into the creation of a piece from the original inspiration to the finished product.
Designers taking part in the Curated Exhibition will explore the distinctive style of the house, masterfully juxtaposing the old with the new, reacting to the beautiful symmetry of the Queen Anne front and the period furniture and furnishings within. Liz Le Grice of Trereife and art librarian for Cornwall says ‘The curated rooms have created opportunities for some very interesting mixes of traditional classic style with the clean, uncluttered lines and geometric shapes of contemporary designs’. ‘Visitors find the contrast of contemporary design set within the beauty of this period house a fascinating subject. For designers, it is a rare opportunity to show our work in the timeless elegance of such a unique setting’
The Fair is set in the beautiful grounds of Trereife House, situated less than a mile west of Penzance with direct access from the main A30.
